What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that works to improve the positioning of your teeth.

Why do I need Invisalign?

Besides for the obvious esthetic benefit of having straight teeth, your dentist may recommend invisalign to correct one or more of a host of problems that crooked teeth and a poor bite can contribute to. Crooked teeth can lead to gum disease and an improper bite can lead to tooth wear, gum recession and even TMJ issues.

How does Invisalign correct bite issues?

Your teeth come together with tremendous amounts of pressure many times a day, every day. Over time these forces can cause damage to the teeth and surrounding structures if the forces are not properly absorbed with correctly aligned and oriented teeth.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign treatment consists of a set of clear, nearly invisible, plastic trays. Each pair of trays is worn sequentially for a set amount of time, moving the teeth to the correct position in a progressive, safe manner.

Do I need to have an impression or mold taken of my teeth?

Nope! At Park Dentistry, we use a state of the art technology called an iTero Scanner to take an accurate, 3 dimensional digital scan of your teeth. No goop required!

How do I use Invisalign?

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign trays are removable and can easily be taken off and placed back on. Trays should be taken off for eating and drinking as well as for brushing and flossing. Otherwise, trays should be worn throughout the day; Patients should achieve 22 hours each day of tray wearing.

How long will my Invisalign treatment be?

Total Invisalign treatment time varies greatly depending on your cases complexity and needs. Average treatment time ranges from 10-14 months.

Can I make my invisalign treatment shorter?

If certain conditions in your oral and overall health are met, you can qualify to undergo “Propel.” Propel is a convenient treatment option that will allow you to expedite your Invisalign case. Generally, Propel is a one time procedure that enables your teeth to move at a much faster rate than they would otherwise be able to. With Propel, each Invisalign tray is worn for approximately 40-60% fewer days, allowing you to finish your Invisalign treatment much sooner than what would otherwise be possible.

What else should I be aware of?

Invisalign treatment will usually require “attachments”, or tooth colored bumps, on certain teeth. These attachments will allow the trays to move the teeth more effectively and are usually placed during your first Invisalign appointment. Additionally, some teeth may require smoothing in the area where they touch adjacent teeth. This will allow the teeth to more efficiently move without being constricted by their neighbors. Finally, your dentist will see you approximately once a month during your treatment to make sure your teeth are moving appropriately.

What happens after my Invisalign treatment is completed?

Once your teeth have arrived at their ideal, healthy position, your teeth may require an occlusal analysis/bite adjustment, and/or retainers.

What are retainers?

Retainers are clear, nearly invisible, plastic trays that are worn at night after your teeth have finished Invisalign treatment and/or bite adjustment. Retainers work and look much like Invisalign trays except they function to only keep the teeth in their current position and are made with a stronger, longer lasting material.
